As an architect, I love seeing unique construction projects, and countries around the Arabian Gulf are full of them. On this day trip, I was mostly interested in seeing the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The building is truly mesmerizing, especially the "rain of light" effect. Our guide explained the process of constructing the dome, and I teased him a bit with nuanced questions. He had all the answers, and I was pleased we had a guide who knows this type of detail. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Qasr Al-Watan are equally impressive. Overall, my impression of Abu Dhabi is that it has a soul and rich heritage, unlike Dubai.
I've had a wonderful time on this tour. I was a bit worried about the dress code, but it wasn't a problem. All of us ladies received a long black dress with a scarf (I think it's called an abaya). We've used it during the visits to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Presidential Palace. It was an interesting experience, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to see another culture. Abu Dhabi is definitely more slow-paced and laid back than Dubai, imo.
